Evolution Equine Services has never been about what I can give you, or what I can teach you. It is about how I can help you learn from and about your horse.
– Maggie Ashley, Owner/Operator
There are two common misconceptions about anatomy knowledge. That it is boring, and that it is irrelevant to the everyday horse owner.
Firstly, if it were boring, I wouldn’t be doing it. Honestly, I have zero threshold for dry information. As a History/English major at University, you can be absolutely certain that I’ve known my fair share of dry information. Knowing how the body of your horse works, as an entire system, is a marvel. It is a moving jigsaw puzzle. An adventure. This is how I approach every new horse (alive, or skeletal) and you can be sure that this is how I will lure you down the rabbit hole of investigation with me! I have such a deep passion for this subject, and that passion keeps the information exciting and fun, as well as educational.
As for relevance, lets sum it up here with the phrase “know better, do better.” The more we know about our horses, the better life and lifestyle we can give them. As custodians of their life, it is our responsibility (and, of course, our pleasure) to give them the best of everything. On a practical level, if you know how a stifle mechanism works, you could understand what is happening when your horse gets stifle lock. Or, having a clear image of the sternum might change your thoughts on what girth you use. Realistically, having a deep knowledge and understanding of the body of your horse can help you make educated choices that will affect the comfort and performance of your horse. So I’d love for you to join me as we wander down the fascinating path that is equine skeletal anatomy.
"I’ve done several clinics led by Maggie and each time have come away not just more knowledgeable about my horses anatomy and greater understanding of how they use their bodies but a passion to learn more!! By seeing the skeleton and how it moves (correctly and incorrectly) it has helped to be able to ‘see’ that bony structure when I’m working with my horses. I’d wholeheartedly encourage any horse owner to attend, the event will be relaxed, fun, engaging and jam packed full of hands on learning."

Structural Understanding
A curious mind and a thirst for knowledge led Maggie down the path of anatomical study. Lucky enough to have a growing collection of 30+ equine skeletons, Maggie spends all her free time studying and learning from these outstanding teachers.
Biomechanical Training
Maggie has deeply invested in learning the nuance of biomechanical rehabilitation training. Having three mares of her own with severe physical limitations, she is also able to take this learning and understanding and apply it in a professional sense.
Experienced Educator
With a background in education and psychology (B Arts/B Teach), Maggie has the ability to communicate complex concepts and ideas to her audience. Having worked with students from Pre-K to Yr 12, she appreciates the need to adapt information to all learning styles.
Hi, I’m Maggie
I have been working professionally with horses in one way or another for the past 23 years. This lifelong passion project began with riding show ponies after school and on weekends, fuelling a passion for understanding and a need for belonging.
My professional horse career has taken me all over the world, working with film horses in England, hunt yards and Olympic dressage stables in the UK and Europe, circus horses in Western Australia and live performance up and down the East Coast of Australia.
My love for anatomy came from a childhood fascination of understanding how things work. I was always curious about what made things tick. To pull something apart and put it back together again brought me an immense amount of joy and a depth of understanding and appreciation that I still find hard to beat.
So I took all the things that I love (and I'm good at) and I smooshed them together to create a life and business that I'm insanely in love with.
